QUAY-WALL SUPERSTRUCTURES AT THE FRONT
OF THE ARTIFICIAL ISLAND

Problems with Superstructures & Bumpers - Solutions

The non-observance of the caisson alignment due to the settlements previously discussed, caused a problem with the installation of bumpers. The construction company solved the problem by constructing a supporting bracket, incorporated into the superstructure.

The final result was excellent, since it completely covered the non-observance of the caisson alignment and assisted in the easy installation of bumpers.

Another problem that the construction company noticed was the violent air pressure along with the waves into the cells. The pressure that the trapped air could exercise could risk the superstructure stability.
Thus, in order to release any trapped air, some expansion holes were constructed at the superstructures front, which, as proven, provided a better and safer operation of the absorbent front.
