The study did not provided for methods or locations
for the construction of caissons. Initially, it was considered possible
to construct them on a dry dock platform on the island. However, a number
of environmental reasons did not allow this mode of construction. Thus,
the construction company sought one mode of construction with the least
intervention on the land area of the island.
The solution was given by a combination of a floating and submerging, 800-tonnes
platform, that was leased by the Italian company "Grandi
Lavori Fincosit".
