Following studies carried out by the manufacturing
company and according to the suggestion made by Professor Gazetas, it was
decided to excavate at a depth of -20.00 m. Thus, all the initial liquefiable
sand is removed and the problem of liquefaction occurs only locally.
The seating of the box caissons is done on a riprap prism, 0.10 to 100 kg
gradation. The diving group spreads a fine-grained material on the prism
crest for the formation of a flat uniform surface.
As scheduled, a relief prism made of 20-100 kg riprap is to be constructed
behind the quay wall, followed by landfills for the construction of the
artificial island.
Prior to the placing of the box caissons, it is scheduled to place artificial
foot blocks measuring 4.5 X 3.0 X 0.30 m. The 0.30-m local reduction in
effective depth has no impact on the car ferries.
