CONSTRUCTION OF CAISSON WALLS

Steel formwork for Caisson Walls

The steel formwork of the walls measured 18.30 X 9.15 X 1.00, was manufactured in Italy and was imported to Greece unmounted (its mounting was done in situ).
The working deck was created by placing planks on top of the cells.

In the middle of each cell's deck, grids were placed in order to facilitate concrete construction of the base and cleaning during concrete construction of the walls.
In the meantime, in the perimeter of the walls, a working deck was hung for the slight repairs of the walls and the removal of the hole-patterns of the absorbent front.

Concrete Construction - Lining of the Caisson Walls

The most complicated part in the construction of caissons was concrete construction of the walls, which included simultaneous concrete construction and lifting of the steel formwork.
The lifting of the steel formwork was done through a hydraulic system installed on the working deck. Simultaneously with the concrete construction, the draft of the floating platfrom ("Benedetta") was increasing.
